DNA BAR CODING
Introduction
¢For most of the world’s population, plants based on many well established system of medicine, in either crude or extract form, however maintaining & enhancing the availability of quality medicinal agents on a sustainable basis is an unappreciated public health care concept. To accomplish these goals for future health care & restore the health of the earth, a profound paradigm shift is necessary.
¢Because of increasing demand for herbal remedies & for authentification of source material it is vital to provide a single database containing information about authentic plant material & their potential adulterants.

DNA BARCODING

¢A DNA barcode is a short gene sequence  taken from standardized portions of the genome, used to identify species
¢Derivation of a short DNA sequence(s) that enables species identification or recognition in a particular domain of life (eucaryotes).
¢The Barcode of Life Initiative (BOLI) would resolve barcodes for named species and use a bar-coding approach to assess undescribed biological diversity

Use as a tool
A]Plant & fungal research
¢Genotype identification
¢Population genetics
¢Taxonomy
B] Plant breeding & diagnostics
¢Epidermiology of plant
C] Animal & human pathogenic fungi
